Health & Safety isn’t just about ticking boxes any longer, it is now much more holistic with a greater focus on the health and wellbeing of employees as well as the safety of the work place/environment. I am a proud member of the New Zealand Safety Council and keep up to date with all the latest information, legislation, trends and prosecutions to ensure I can offer as current and relevant information as possible.
I offer a H&S system tailored to your specific needs - whether that is a “Health Check” to give you an idea on how your H&S systems are going, taking care of your monthly reporting or assisting you with your day-to-day needs.
It is important to me that we work together to create the best possible solution for you and your team, as that is the way to ensure long term success. No “cookie cutter/one size fits all” methods here! Because not everyone needs the exact same things, and I feel it’s vital not to over sell and make you fit into a box for the sake of ease.
Human Resources
End-to-end Human Resources - From recruitment to the end of their employment I can assist with all aspects of HR, including inductions, policies and procedures, training needs analysis, performance reviews, corrective actions, probation, and disciplinary processes.
I also believe that recognition and reward play a vital role in creating and maintaining a positive team environment. When staff feel appreciated and recognised they work harder and smarter and are significantly happier at work which is a win for everyone.
No one likes the disciplinary process or corrective actions, but sometimes it just needs to occur. When this happens you need to ensure you follow the correct and legal processes and that is where I can assist, with either advice or by walking through the process with you.
Drug Testing, Monitoring & Management
I hold the latest and most current NZQA unit standards for workplace drug testing in both urine testing and oral fluid swabs, I can perform pre-employment, random, due cause and post-incident drug testing on site at your workplace. We can also take this through to evidentiary testing if required. I can also assist with the creation, implementation and monitoring of your Drug Testing Policy and Programme.
I can also tailor a short presentation to your team leaders/management or all of your staff on some of the ways to identify if someone is on drugs or alcohol while they are at work and also talk to them about the dangers of Meth (which is now the most common reason for drug test fails in the region).
Recruitment
From the creation of job descriptions, or assisting in updating them, re-banding salaries or hourly rates, advertising roles, fielding applications, background and reference checking along with initial shortlisting, I can make the recruitment of new and replacement staff a simple process by only presenting you with the best applicants.
Once you have it down to your final one or two candidates I can help you make the best decision for your organisation by assisting with psychometric and/or skills based testing and present you with a final report on the candidates suitability for the role.
Risk Management
From policy to identification and management I can assist you with your risk management in a way that makes it easy to use and understandable for all staff.
It is vital that risks are identified early and that everyone knows what they are and what is put in place around them. It is also important that risk policies and management plans are living documents, not something to be done once and then put in a drawer and forgotten about.
I believe it’s important to take risk management into the everyday work environment so it becomes something normal, rather than this scary “thing” that sits in the corner that no one really wants to take responsibility for in case something goes wrong.
Workplace Mental Health
Since the 2015 Health & Safety at Work Act more onus has been placed on employers to ensure they monitor the mental health & wellbeing of their employees.
There is an expectation that employers offer a bully free workplace, one that is free of prejudice and safe from both physical and psychological harm.
It is important that there are policies and programmes in place to help staff if things go pear shaped and to also protect you - the employer. I can help you with this and also help your staff on an as needed basis if required.
Mentoring & Holistic Pastoral Care
In today’s busy and fast paced society sometimes little things are overlooked and that is where mentoring & holistic pastoral care comes in.
You may have a staff member who you really value but suddenly they start having a lot of unexpected time off and when you get down to it, its because there have been a few issues at home. After a referral here and a couple of calls there and a bit of a wraparound support network being put in place at home, they can stop worrying about what is going on at home and be back to work 110%. Not only do you have a great employee back at work, they will be a positive champion in the workplace for you.
It can also be small things like bringing a stop smoking programme to the staff, rather than them trying to get time off to get to a doctor and then to get their prescriptions filled. Small things like this can have a really positive follow on effect throughout an organisation.
Private Investigation
I hold a current Private Investigators License with the Ministry of Justice, this means I can offer Best Practice Independent Investigations into staff/personnel issues, which has become vital since the June findings - read the findings on my news page.
I am available to assist with internal investigations as an independent investigator to ensure a non-biased and fair investigation is conducted in all areas of your business.
Being able to show your staff that you do take their concerns seriously goes a long way with moral and team building, and keeping it independent offers a fair process for all involved.
